Straight

Kopf hoch.

Protect ya neck

The phone rests on your lap, your eyes stay down, your thumb keeps scrolling. Straight turns the screen dark when the device lies too flat. Lift it, and the content comes back.

A reminder for a small habit. Straight measures the tilt of the phone, not your body. Not a medical device and not a tracker.

Straight is on. The arc shows 72 degrees, and the limit is 40 degrees.

Straight

Kopf hoch.

Protect ya neck

Hold the phone upright.

How it works

Three steps. You turn it on, and you turn it off.

  1. 01 Switch on You start Straight and allow the cover over other apps. Without that permission the screen stays visible.
  2. 02 Too flat When the phone stays below your angle longer than your delay, the screen goes dark. Even if another app is in front.
  3. 03 Upright again Lifting is enough. Pause, a call, or the notification also clears the cover.

Questions

Why these permissions?

The cover over other apps needs “Display over other apps”, and you grant it yourself. The notification exists because Android keeps the sensor reading in a foreground service, and you stop Straight from it. After a restart, monitoring can resume if you left that setting on. The vibration is one short pulse before the screen goes dark. Straight does not use accessibility services and does not read your taps.

What about battery?

The sensor is read about five times a second, and the reading pauses when the screen is off. It is not location and not a high sample rate. Some phone makers still stop foreground services. The app explains battery settings. It does not request a special exemption.

Does Straight collect data?

The app has no internet permission. Sensor readings stay on the device. There is no account and no analytics. This website is separate: no cookies and no tracking. The waitlist is the only way an email address leaves this page, and only if you send it. See the website privacy policy and the app privacy policy.

Is there an iPhone version?

An iOS version is in planning. There is no date.

Do emergency calls and phone calls still work?

Yes. The notification shade and emergency calls stay reachable. If “pause during calls” is on, the screen stays visible during a call. Straight notices the call from the audio mode, not from the phone number.
