Privacy policy for the Straight app

What the app does

Straight is a reminder to hold the phone upright. When the device stays too flat, the screen goes dark. Straight is not a medical device and not a health tracker. It measures the tilt of the device, not the body.

Nothing is transmitted

The app does not request the internet permission. It cannot reach a server, create an account, load ads, or run analytics. Sensor readings do not leave the device.

Google Play treats data as collected when it leaves the device. Straight does not transmit data. Settings and the daily count stay on the device.

What stays on the device

The items below live in private app preferences and are removed on uninstall. There is no account that could restore them elsewhere. A user-initiated Android backup may include them. That backup belongs to the user’s own device-backup account, not to the publisher.

• whether monitoring is on, and whether setup was finished
• angle limit, delay, gentle warning, call exception, start on boot, language
• the time until which a pause applies
• how often the screen went dark today, and the calendar day of that counter
• a local flag for a later purchase. Version 1.0.0 does not use it. There is no purchase and no billing

Individual sensor samples are not stored. They are read in memory, compared with the limit, and discarded.

Sensor and calls

While monitoring is on and the screen is lit, Straight reads the gravity sensor, or the accelerometer if gravity is missing, about five times a second. That is device tilt, not location and not body posture.

A call is detected from the system audio mode. The app does not read phone numbers, contacts, or call history.

Permissions that are not data collection

• Display over other apps: only the cover the user turned on
• Notifications: the ongoing notice, which can stop the service
• Start after reboot: resume monitoring if it was on
• Vibration: one short pulse before the screen goes dark

Sharing

The app has no recipients, no processors acting for the publisher, and no transfer to a third country, because nothing leaves the app. There are no ads and no tracking. Straight is not directed at children under 16.

Rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, for example the Bavarian data protection authority (Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht, BayLDA). The app data is only on your device. Uninstalling, or clearing the app’s storage in system settings, deletes it. Requests: hallo@straight-app.com.

Changes

A new version of this policy is published on this page. Version 1.0.0 transmits nothing.
